Grilled Pizza: That’s Amore

Now that summer is in full swing, people all over the country are heading outside to grill. This usually means some big, meaty steaks, hamburgers or hot dogs served up by the guys in our lives, but why not try something completely different this year? You might just totally blow your boyfriend’s mind. My new favorite dish to grill is doughy, cheesy, sometimes saucy, chewy and oh-so-crisp. You guessed it – I’m talking pizza!

PizzePizza is one of the easiest, but most impressive things to grill. It’s very in style right now as people are searching for healthy meat alternatives. Good dough is as simple as flour, water, yeast, sugar and salt. Whenever possible, I switch to whole wheat flour to make the dish a little healthier, and I like the texture it adds. You can also purchase pre-made pizza dough from various grocery stores. If you can find it, this definitely saves on time.

After the dough is made or bought, the rest is smooth sailing. Just heat up your grill, stretch your dough out into 10 inch rounds, brush the dough with olive oil, and toss it on the grill. After the first side is golden and crispy, flip the dough to the other side. Now it’s time to put on the toppings, pop on the grill cover, and cook until the bottom of the dough crisps up. The topping possibilities are endless. I like to use ingredients out of my own garden – fresh tomatoes and basil. Add some fresh mozzarella, and your pizza can’t be beat. Want something fancier? Try a pesto pizza made with that same basil, or maybe a barbecue chicken pizza if you’re into meat.

This weekend while you woman the grill, let your guy kick back, drink a beer and admire your mad skills. Forgo the giant hunks of meat and make something quick, cheap and healthy like grilled pizza!

Project Runway Season 8

Project Runway Season 8

Just when I thought the hit Lifetime show that features up and coming designers could not get any better, it does. Project Runway Season 8 will not only feature a new 90-minute format, but it will also feature two designers from my hometown of St. Louis, both of which I have had the privilege to know and love.Michael Drummond

Michael Drummond, 31, first landed on my radar after winning a local design competition “Project Design” during St. Louis Fashion Week. His line, Exquisite Corpse, featured tattered yet elegant knits where peek-a-boos were perfectly placed to please the eye. I was lucky enough to be the first to interview him directly after his win. Both gracious and humble, this talented designer is sure to make his mark on the Project Runway judges.A.J. Thouvenot

Less subdued and slightly zany, A.J. Thouvenot is no stranger to fashion. Acting as designer for TrashBiscuit, the only thing louder than this ultra outgoing 26 year-old is his designs. A.J. was quoted calling his line, “downtown, trashy and a little bit of nonsense.” A little glam, a little punk and a whole lot of color make A.J. one to look out for. Having interviewed Mr. Thouvenot several times, I can tell you this: his personality, style, and love for design are genuine and infectious.

Now it’s up to Nina Garcia, Micheal Kors and Heidi Klum to judge my two hometown boys. But in my book, these two definitely make it work. Project Runway debuts July 29 at 9 PM ET/PT. For more information on all the season 8 designers, visit their website!
