Just when I thought the hit Lifetime show that features up and coming designers could not get any better, it does. Project Runway Season 8 will not only feature a new 90-minute format, but it will also feature two designers from my hometown of St. Louis, both of which I have had the privilege to know and love.
Michael Drummond, 31, first landed on my radar after winning a local design competition “Project Design” during St. Louis Fashion Week. His line, Exquisite Corpse, featured tattered yet elegant knits where peek-a-boos were perfectly placed to please the eye. I was lucky enough to be the first to interview him directly after his win. Both gracious and humble, this talented designer is sure to make his mark on the Project Runway judges.
Less subdued and slightly zany, A.J. Thouvenot is no stranger to fashion. Acting as designer for TrashBiscuit, the only thing louder than this ultra outgoing 26 year-old is his designs. A.J. was quoted calling his line, “downtown, trashy and a little bit of nonsense.” A little glam, a little punk and a whole lot of color make A.J. one to look out for. Having interviewed Mr. Thouvenot several times, I can tell you this: his personality, style, and love for design are genuine and infectious.
Now it’s up to Nina Garcia, Micheal Kors and Heidi Klum to judge my two hometown boys. But in my book, these two definitely make it work. Project Runway debuts July 29 at 9 PM ET/PT. For more information on all the season 8 designers, visit their website!
